Perfecting Print
Bringing sustainability to print and packaging is always at the forefront of our minds here at Brightprint Ltd.
Our goal is to prioritise the shift from plastic packaging to eco friendly packaging solutions. We focus on offering sustainable packaging options—such as recyclable packaging cardboard packaging—that can be applied to everyday use.
We are committed to sustainable practices throughout the entire manufacturing process of print and packaging. Working closely with our valued clients, we help determine the best sustainable packaging outcomes that add value, increase growth, and improve environmental impact.
Below, we highlight a number of processes implemented in our manufacturing facilities that minimise our effect on the environment. We continue to seek innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint and promote recyclable packaging as a key part of our eco friendly mission.
WML and CMPC
Sustainably Sourced Board
Brightprints main source of packaging boards come from two mills, the CMPC Mill based in Chile and the Whakatane Mill based here in NZ. The Whakatāne Mill takes a proactive approach to their ongoing commitment to sustainability. Across sourcing, production and distribution, they are making impactful changes toward a greener future for their business, community, and planet. Recent machinery upgrades and significant investments have seen their sustainability efforts result in 30% less gas consumption, decreased water consumption from the Whakatāne River, and 30% energy efficiency per tonne of board. The CMPC mill is the largest recycler and paper mill in Chile. CMPC’s work is deeply connected to the communities, territories, and ecosystems around them. They view generating stakeholder value as essential to their own sustainable growth. CMPC works directly with natural resources like soil, water, and forests, understanding both the positive and negative impacts of their operations.

Fujifilm
Completely Process-Less Plates
Brightprint have partnered with Fujifilm to help achieve the most environmentally friendly plate making process. This is Fujifilms most advanced printing plate ever, with a combination of technologies that exhibit higher ink receptivity with faster development on the press.
This system makes our plate making procedures completely processless. This means we have removed the plate processor used in traditional plate making methods which would usually carry various chemicals and water.
Paper & Board Waste Recycling
Brightprint work in partnership with Reclaim for the handling of all waste paper and board.
When producing approximately 6 tonne of paper and board waste a week, we are conscious of undertaking the most sustainable recycling practise available in NZ. Reclaim are accepted as the experts when it comes to recycling in NZ. Their recommendations of innovative on-site recycling solutions and advisory services, support our customers in reaching their sustainability goals.

YUM
Case Study Yum Granola
Sarah, the head chef and founder of Yum who makes the world’s best granola, wanted to move away from soft plastics, as most were ending up in landfill. She approached us for an earth-friendly packaging solution that could be branded and stand apart on the shelves. Their goal was to prevent packaging from going to landfill and help protect the planet.
As a solution, we created an attractive retail box with a locking tab that requires no tape or plastic. Made from unbleached, uncoated kraft board using 100% virgin pulp. Printed, die-cut, and glued in our chemical-free Greymouth factory. The inks used don’t hinder recycling or composting. We love that this box can be recycled, returning to pulp and starting its life cycle again as another attractive retail box, helping reduce single-use plastic in landfills.
